In 2008/2009, An-Nur Mosque received Distinction Awards from MUIS for being a Community and Youth-Friendly Mosque. Back then, Woodlands was made up of Kampong Woodlands Laut, Kampong Lorong Fatimah, Kampong Mandai Kechil, Kampong Kranji, Kampong Hock Choon, Kampong Marsiling, Kampong Lim Boon Keng, and the Barracks and Naval Bases of The Malaysian Royal Navy at Marsiling and Admiralty Road. However, the Muslim community there was without a mosque. Every surau within each village was the only place of worship and had limited capacities. The nearest mosque was at Sembawang, and when there were needs for larger congregations, they had to cross the Straits of Johor to attend the Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque in Johore Bahru. These conditions spurred the Muslim community to have their own mosque, and thus in 1961, the first Mosque Building Committee was born. It was only 3 years later in 1964 that the Registry of Society (ROS) approved of this mosque building activities. Never looking back, the Woodlands Muslim community went all out to make this dream come true. Finally, in the year 1980 on the 20th of April, the Muslim community of Woodlands rejoiced the opening of a new mosque in the northernmost part of Singapore, officiated by Abdul Rahim Ishak, Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. An-Nur Mosque, also popularly known as the Blue Mosque of Singapore, had a total cost of about $2.1M including interior furnishings. What was then a dream to build a modest kampong mosque with a budget of about $25 000, probably with a mix of concrete and wooden structures, turned out to be a sprawling 4-storey, blue-tiled, fully concrete structure with one of the highest minarets in Singapore, if not the tallest still standing now. The growing population and changing landscapes in the Woodlands estate not only made the mosque a place of worship – but also a social, educational, and a communal centre making it the focal point for the Muslim community. Acute challenges arose when the facilities and infrastructure could no longer support the ever-increasing demands. In the late 1990s, the management board came up with an upgrading plan. The plans were firmed up by MUIS and were put on the drawing board. In 2008 with fundraising plans raised, there was no looking back. Between 2011 and 2013, the mosque underwent major upgradings. Daily mosque operations continued in a temporary mosque, residing between the Marsiling Community Centre and An-Nur Mosque itself. In 2013, the Muslim community of Woodlands rejoiced again. This time with the opening of the newly upgraded An-Nur Mosque. Included in the upgrading was an added new floor, making the mosque now 5-storeys high with elevator facilities. This provided bigger prayer halls to accommodate the ever increasing congregation and other added facilities to better serve the Woodlands’ Muslim community specifically, and also Singaporean Muslims at large. Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs, Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, officially reopened An-Nur Mosque on Friday, 31st May 2013. The cost of the newly upgraded mosque is $7.2 million excluding interior furnishings. The mosque can now accommodate up to 6000 worshippers. This is nearly double the 3,500 people it used to hold before. The mosque maintains most of its unique features like its iconic blue facades and the tall blue minaret. As the elderly made up most of the mosque’s congregation, new features such as ramps, a lift, toilets for the handicapped, and entry into the main prayer hall now has no stairs, in contrast to having had to walk up a few risers while entering the main hall prior to the upgrading. This accommodated well to their needs. Also, both pre-school and Alive madrasah classes were refurbished with new technologies, promoting better access to teaching and learning facilities. Till today, An-Nur Mosque continues to be one of the important landmarks in Woodlands. Living up to its motto of 'Memasyaratkan Masjid dan Memasjidkan Masyarakat' (A Community for the Mosque, A Mosque for the Community), An-Nur Mosque is a vibrant mosque known for its strong outreach programmes. The mosque has long been accustomed to its wide networking, not only with Malay/Muslim institutions but also among the Non-Malay/Muslim organisations and government agencies. Hence, providing more opportunities for closer interaction and engagement with the asatizah. An-Nur Mosque run a Kindergarten program which provides early positive experience that is key to life long advantage. We aim to provide positive learning experiences by fostering and promoting learning opportunities through fun and interactive activities. Built upon the foundation core values of respect and courteous, integrity, independence and confidence. The objective is to ensure students are able to recognise the hijaiyah letters , read with tajweed and improve on recitation skills. Students are taught to correctly pronounce Quranic letters with its correct pronunciations (Makhraj). Inculcating Quranic literacy within our Muslim community, the program caters to the needs of young children and young adults. When Mr Haji Abu Bakar Hashim took the helm of the 3rd Chairman of An-Nur Mosque, he saw this vibrant kampong spirit within the concrete flats among the Malay/Muslims as a way to bring the whole Malay/Muslim community of Woodlands New Town together while centering the An-Nur Mosque as its heart. He first invited all the leaders of the Block Committees and suggested that a new way of “Kampong Block of Flats” to be formed. And thus in 1986, the Qaryah System was established. Qaryah simply means “neighbourhood”. Educational background, occupation and income level g. Information relating to payments, such as your bank account number 3.1      Generally, Masjid An-Nur may collect and retain your personal data that are reasonably necessary to fulfil the following purposes: b. Registration for mosque’s events such as camps, seminars, workshops, trainings, talks and competitions c. Special fundraising efforts such as donation cards, donation tins and sales of coupons d. Enquiries, requests and feedbacks via telephone, email and online forms e. Application for financial assistance and fees subsidy 3.2.1    Masjid An-Nur is to obtain the consent of an individual before collecting and retaining the personal data about that individual. 3.2.2    Photographs and audio / video recordings: Further to point 3.2, this would also include photographs and audio/video recordings of your participation and involvement in our mosque’s events that we may have collected. 4.1      In addition to points 4.2 and points 4.3, Masjid An-Nur may use the personal data collected for the following purposes: a. Responding to your queries, requests and feedbacks b. Managing the administrative, finance and operations of your registration to our classes and events c. Keeping you updated on our current and future classes or events 4.2     Photographs and audio/video recordings during our mosque’s events may be used for our publicity and promotion purposes such as newsletters, brochures, flyers, posters, banners, websites and other social media platforms. 4.3     Masjid An-Nur may use personal data collected for the purposes for which the personal data was collected. 4.4     Masjid An-Nur is to obtain consent to use personal data that has been collected. 4.5     Where an individual objects or withdraws his or her consent of this Policy, Masjid An-Nur must cease to use that individual’s personal data within a reasonable time. 5.1      In the event that Masjid An-Nur is required to provide the personal data for the following: a. Third party agencies such as insurance companies and travel agencies b. External banks/financial institutions for processing of payment instructions and/or direct debit facilities c. External financial audit, prior consent will be obtained beforehand. 5.2     Where an individual withdraws his or her consent, Masjid An-Nur must cease to disclose that individual’s personal data. 6.1      In respect for individuals who have not attained the age of 18 years, Masjid An-Nur is to obtain the consent of a parent or guardian of the individual before collecting, using or disclosing personal data about that individual. 7.1      Masjid An-Nur is to protect the Personal Data in its possession and to prevent unauthorised access, collection, use, disclosure, copying, modification, disposal or similar risks, in accordance with the applicable laws. 7.2     Masjid An-Nur is to ensure that all employees, volunteers and authorised external organisations are aware of the importance of protecting the confidentiality of the Personal Data. 8.1      Masjid An-Nur is to ensure that any Personal Data that are no longer serving the purpose(s) for which they are collected, or that are no longer necessary to be retained for any legal or business purpose, are removed or made anonymous. 8.2     Masjid An-Nur will be responsible for the above and in addition, care shall be taken when personal data are to be disposed of or destroyed to prevent unauthorised parties from gaining access to that personal data. 9.1      We take all reasonable measures to ensure that your Personal Data remains accurate, complete and up-to-date. 9.2     You may request access to or make corrections to your Personal Data records, but Masjid An-Nur may consider to charge a reasonable fee for processing of your request or to waive depending on the nature of your request. **10.0    Contacting Us - Withdrawal of Consent, Access and Correction of Personal Data** a. have any questions or feedback relating to your Personal Data or our Data Protection Policy, b. wish to withdraw your consent to the collection, use or disclosure of your Personal Data as set out in this Personal Data Protection Policy, c. wish to obtain access and make corrections or updates to your Personal Data records, You may contact us as follows: **11.     Availability and Review of Policy & Practices** 11.1     The document shall be made available upon request. This document may be found at Masjid An-Nur's Reception Counter or Notice Board located at 6 Admiralty Road Singapore 739983. 11.2     Masjid An-Nur Management Board will, from time to time, monitor, review and amend this document in its absolute discretion where it deems necessary or appropriate in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Policy or as directed and issued by Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS). *A Dynamic Mosque Providing Socio-religious Services to the Community* *A Dynamic Mosque Providing Socio-religious Services to the Community* Copyright © Masjid An-Nur. Let us come together in gratitude and reflection, as we continue building a mosque that stands strong with faith, compassion, and excellence. Come and celebrate family, faith, and fun at **Hari Usrah Saeedah: Family Carnival 2025** at Masjid An-Nur! ?   This special event is held in conjunction with our 45th Anniversary and is dedicated to appreciating the strength and unity of the family institution. Bring along your loved ones and enjoy a lively morning filled with meaningful and exciting activities for all ages.  We will also be launching the **Masjid An-Nur Heritage Board**, showcasing the legacy, stories, and milestones of our mosque since 1980.   As part of our 45th Anniversary celebrations, Masjid An-Nur is distributing **2,000 packs of briyani** to the community — a gesture of gratitude and unity.  Join us on two consecutive Fridays as we share the joy of giving with all congregants. Whether you’re a long-time member of our mosque or just visiting, this is our way of saying **thank you** for being part of our journey since 1980.   ?️ **No registration required** — simply collect your briyani after Solat Jumaat, while stocks last.   In conjunction with our 45th Anniversary, Masjid An-Nur hosts a special **Gala Dinner** — an evening of reflection, gratitude, and celebration with our community, supporters, and esteemed guests.   The evening features a showcase of our mosque’s legacy, interactive booth displays, milestone video presentations, and a prestigious education award ceremony.   This Gala Dinner marks a meaningful chapter in our journey — one that continues to be written together with the community.   In conjunction with our 45th Anniversary, Masjid An-Nur is proud to introduce the **Nur Kasih Education Award** — an initiative to support and uplift outstanding students from the Woodlands and Marsiling community. ?   This award recognises students who embody excellence not only in their academic pursuits, but also in their character, leadership, community involvement, and Islamic values.   This initiative reflects our commitment to nurturing future leaders who will carry forward the values of service, integrity, and compassion.   ? May Allah SWT continue to guide and bless our youth with success in this life and the next.   As part of our 45th Anniversary celebrations, Masjid An-Nur presents a spirited **Futsal Tournament for Muslimin** — bringing together youth and adults for a day of friendly competition, brotherhood, and community bonding.   This is more than just a game — it’s a celebration of unity, teamwork, and healthy living, all in the spirit of our anniversary theme: **“Serving with Confidence and Compassion.”**   **?
